There is a cartoon of a skeleton sitting on a park bench. The caption says, "Waiting for the perfect man." I've always thought that was funny, but now I laugh for a different reason. I used to think the joke was the "perfect man." You know what? That's not the joke. The joke is the "waiting."
I believe the perfect man does exist, perfect for me anyway. But, he will not be found by waiting. I've decided I'm not waiting, not anymore. I'm searching. I'm hunting. I'm on a mission. I will find one of you men who is perfect for me, a man whom I can admire and love forever. We will be married and it is going to be (...pause for effect...) awesome!
The question you came here to answer for both of us is... might it be you? Who knows? Crazier things have happened. :-)
What sort of man is going to love being married to me? It will be a man who values:
*Activity - I am really active. I get in to things like hiking, biking, boating, dancing, and playing tennis or basketball. I adore walking through a new town to discover its local flavor and flair. I love exploring new places and experiencing life in ways I haven't before. Weekend getaways are my favorite way to reconnect and to create shared memories.
*Fitness - Eating healthy and staying fit is super important to me. While I refer to myself as a "fair-weather runner," I only mean that I prefer warm weather running, but that's what treadmills are for, right? My favorite mornings are the two I work with my trainer, constantly striving to be a better physical version of myself.
*Touch and intimacy - I am one of those people who connects through physical touch and intimacy. A healthy, fun and mutually enjoyable sex life is a crucial part of a solid marriage. I totally get it. I'm on board. Enough said I guess. ;-)
*Home life - While there are many gender-based traditions I don't totally subscribe to, I do love the art of homemaking, particularly when it comes to the kitchen. I find solace and joy creating meals for those I love. Love to cook, too? That's a bonus because you know what they say about couples who cook together!
*Friendship and support - If you are my man, I've got your back. I'm your best friend, your most ardent supporter, your biggest fan. The passions, dreams and hopes of those I love become my own. I am an effusive admirer. When you knock my socks off, I'll tell you how amazingly amazing you are. I am not that nag. When you may need to make a minor adjustment to meet my needs, I'll give it to you straight up, but with patience and optimism. Any conflicts that arise in our lives will pit us against the problem, not us against each other.
These are just *some* of the important aspects of who I am and what makes me tick. Of course, there is even more to me, as there is of you I'm sure.
Gordon B. Hinckley... I love him. He said, "The course of our lives is seldom determined by great, life-altering decisions. Our direction is often set by the small, day-to-day choices that chart the track on which we run. This is the substance of our lives--making choices."
Like him, I believe we chart our own happiness by the small, incremental choices we make each day. Today I am choosing to seek and find a companion who wants to run the track of life with me, side by side until the finish line of our lives, and beyond.
Now you get to choose: click or not? ;-)
