This is the third version of my little introduction on this website, and I've left this window open for hours trying to think of just the right thing to say to win over just the right sort of guy. Uuuugggghhhhhh, whatever. Here it is:
I'm a teacher, and right now that takes up most of life. At the moment I'm working on earning my NC teaching license, focusing on middle school social studies. In the meantime I substitute at an elementary school, teach piano, and tutor. Basically I'll teach anyone I can. And when I'm not doing that, I'm preparing materials and lesson plans for that social studies class I'll be teaching one day...
I'm also a musician. I finally have my own piano sitting in my living room, and I play everything from Bach to the Beatles. My taste is pretty eclectic, but my favorite genres for playing and listening include classical, bluegrass, classic rock, alternative rock, and the occasional indie band as long as they're not too full of themselves.
I enjoy TV and movies far too much for my own good, and one of my current goals is to replace screen time with book time. When I was a kid I read constantly. Again, my taste is eclectic. I enjoy a good rom com or period drama, but I love sci fi, foreign films, mind benders, the occasional thriller. I've never been able to choose a single favorite book. The Chronicles of Narnia have been favorites since childhood. To Kill a Mockingbird is one of the best books ever written. Atlas Shrugged blew my mind. I'm a %$#!%er for any kind of dystopian story.
The gospel is a big deal to me, and being LDS has defined most of life. I grew up in the church, and I went to BYU. I served a mission in Toronto (why yes, that IS where President Monson served!), and I think I'll spend the rest of my life living up to and building on the lessons I learned during those 18 months. I learned about what love and charity really are there, and golly gee I miss it so much.
My life goals are:
-To be an amazing, supportive, loving wife. I know that probably means different things to different people, but any way you slice it, an eternal marriage is a number one priority.
-To be a mother in every way. I really, really want a family, however that family comes. Staying home with my future children is important to me, more important than any particular lifestyle. I also daydream about adopting or opening my home to foster children someday. So many children are suffering because their families aren't willing or able to provide for them. I want to help.
-To be the best teacher I can be. I was born to teach, not in the sense that I'm a preternaturally gifted educator, but in the sense that I can't imagine any other professional career that would be as meaningful.
Now, if you've read this far, you should know that I'm pretty overweight (5' 5" and around 180 lbs.). Let's just say I have a great personality. And yeah, sure, beauty is only skin deep, I should be comfortable with the skin I'm in, etc., but physical appearances are part of dating and I'm okay with that. I'm trying to lose weight, but it's going to take a while. So there, full disclosure. Thanks for reading.
