Hi there! I'm Melissa. I grew up in Wyoming, but after stints in exotic locations like Russia and the Netherlands and Utah, I'm learning to call Kentucky home. I'm a professional bookworm and I'm blessed with an exciting job I really enjoy. I admit it may not ALWAYS be exciting, but I have fun coworkers and managers who encourage and enable my crazy ideas, and that makes all the difference. It's a great way to spend 40 hours a week.
I spend my free time on an eclectic mix of interests and hobbies. I don't get to travel nearly as much as I'd like, but I still love learning about other languages and cultures.
I have a soft spot for furry animals and I'm a foster for a local animal shelter. I think the neighbors are getting used to seeing a different dog running around my backyard every month or so.
I'm looking forward to warmer weather so I can bike to work again. I'm definitely not an aggressive biker--as in having specific kit to wear or going on wild and rocky trails. My style is more biking around town and on the smoothed-out trails in the woods and parks.
I have enjoyed experimenting with different foods and cuisine and would like to do that more. I can't wait for my vegetable garden to start producing again!
I recently bought an ornate old treadle sewing machine from 1923 and I'm planning to use it more this summer. It's fascinating that such an old thing still works perfectly--I'm amazed at the simplicity and the neatness of how it's engineered. I'm an unabashed knitter and am rarely caught without some project or other in my bag...just in case.
I've been an active member of the church all my life and living the gospel fully is VERY important to me. I was blessed to grow up in a strong home and now my siblings and their families are great examples to me of how I'd like my family to be someday.
So there's a little about me. Of course there's more to tell. I'm always looking for new, fun date ideas--any suggestions of things you've enjoyed? If you want to share about you, drop me a line! And if not, well, we're all in the same boat here, so best of luck to you!
