When I think about my life in the future, I imagine moments great and small with someone special. Mostly I imagine conversations and appreciating little things in life together, though certainly there will be great adventures as well. I want that someone to be someone who I can respect, someone I listen to and who listens to me, someone who I sacrifice for and who sacrifices for me, a best friend I am also undeniably attracted to. I want to share life and all its joys and challenges with someone, raise a family together, go on adventure together, share an enduring connection and bond with - making those things happen together through mutual communication, love, kindness, and respect.
I'm very adaptive, maybe in part from personality, but certainly due to upbringing; we moved a lot growing up with my dad in the Army and each place there were new people, places, words, activities, and even cultures. Not surprising then that I'm a Jack-of-most-trades and I can figure out the rest for the most part.
I'm fairly well-traveled (though mostly not the "usual suspects"/places) and enjoy learning about and exploring new places, things and ideas. I've lived in Korea, Malaysia, Colombia and all over the US - plus plenty of international travel for fun.
I'd like to think I'm complex - maybe because I'm a deep thinker and often feel that others only get to see the tip of the iceberg - but friends and family still know me well. On one birthday, friends surprised me with a game - "You don't know Jack!" (I'm Jack, if you hadn't surmised that already. Nice to meet you, too.) They say the TV character I'm most like is Jack Bauer (I think that's because of the job and some interests - I don't actually go running around chasing spies or terrorists myself) and the cheesy 80s movie character I'm most like is Tom Cruise in Risky Business (I attribute this one to my propensity for singing with the music - plenty of smiles and antics, but not in his character's particular choice of garb.).
I love the Lord and try to contribute to the world while enjoying life and continuing to learn and discover. I appreciate the big and small things in life, and activities from muddy outdoors to black-tie events. I’m personable, interesting, and fun - either that, or people have been successfully lying to me for years. I love and am fascinated by people, culture, ideas, language, and places and am always on the lookout for ways to learn, explore, and serve. I love being in nature and having quiet to rejuvenate, relax, and meditate just as much as hardy laughter and large groups of people.
I love-love learning, music, people, and being physically active. Favorite areas of learning are in science (especially the mind or astrophysics), current events, foreign affairs, history, religion, and human nature.
Favorite art: Winged Victory of Samothrace, Washington at Valley Forge, O Jerusalem.
Favorite vacations: lakehouse, beachhouse, sightseeing, camping, roadtrips, cabin or a cruise.
Story: A few years ago, a bunch of the fam was together reading scriptures and my brother turns to his oldest, Grant then 6, and asks him if he understands what it means to be "accountable." All eyes on Grant as he looks pensive. He lights up and exclaims, "Sure, you eat people!" Everybody died laughing. Kids confusing being "accountable" with being "a cannibal." I look forward to stuff like that with my future fam - just as long as they don't actually go chomping on people!
Who I'd Like to Meet:
More good friends: People who are passionate about life, engage in scintillating conversation, inspire, and bring smiles and laughter to those around them.
If you know Myers-Briggs personality typing, I think my best matches are ENFJs, ENFPs, and INTJs, though one never knows until you find the one, right?
This really should go without saying, but... intelligence is attractive, so why not show how great you are by forming your own sentences instead of just sending a "smile" message?(/span)
