Guten Tag! Or, Good Day! ... My name is Lisa. I am usually an outgoing person who loves to laugh and loves to make others laugh. I adore animals and children, and consider myself a loyal friend. Probably too loyal. My son says I forgive people over and over who don't deserve it, so I guess that is likely true.
I know this will deter many, and that's OK. However, I am battling cancer at the moment and feel I am winning, thanks to Heavenly Father.
I am a proud mom to one son, 19, who is growing in his faith, and I attribute this to the fact we have some fantastic elders his age who have connected with him at a time in life when he is finally searching. I think my illness is what it took to make him finally call on his faith, and I am ever so grateful we are attending church together these days after being inactive for too long. We are both growing even stronger in our faith, and I enjoy attending Gospel Principles class with him and even reading it to him at home and discussing it. We are all works in progress, and so thrilled to be in a good place spiritually with my son as he grows.
Update! My son wants to serve a mission. This will be a real challenge for me, since it's always been only he and I ... and with my illness, it's extra hard, but I am excited to support him in his desire. We will know by December where he's headed, I believe. Blessings abound!
Beyond this, I have been devoting more time to working on my genealogy so I can do some long-overdue baptisms for my great-grandparents and their siblings. :) I have begun them; and in fact, I completed 26 family baptisms and confirmations in May 2014, which is really exciting for me--and more in June-today. (Heavenly Father is indeed hastening the work on earth!)
Soon, I hope to be able to devote time to endowments; however, my calling as a ward missionary is something I am focusing on also now, so I need more hours in a day, more days in a week. :) I was the official "Missionary Mom," per the bishop, so the calling is a good fit. I love my elders and they love and bless me back, thankfully. It's a great bonus to me, because I have only one son, so for the missionaries to call me "Mom" and "Mamma" makes me feel like I have more children, even if they are 18-20. I have always wanted more children--and I am definitely a boy's mom, even though I would love whoever was sent my way!
Beyond all of the above, I am a very career-oriented person and have devoted more than two decades to a career in higher education as a professor and even longer to a career in journalism, both print and broadcast but primarily the former. I am very independent, but learning to rely on others a bit more in my middle age, which is not easy for me, but I am working on it.
If you have any questions, ask. I am better at asking questions than answering them, thanks to my journalism background, but I promise to do my best.
I hope to make some new friends who are LDS ... and hope my illness doesn't chase folks away. Best of luck to you in your endeavors on LDS Singles.
