Moved to Pittsburgh in 2010 to begin working on a doctorate at Pitt. It's awkward to be at the bottom of a totem pole again, but I've always loved re-learning humility, at which I excel. I grew up in Seattle and have lived a few other places (SoCal, Utah, NYC, here). I'm highly rational and have a dry, sharp sense of humor that works well for the five percent of the world who understands I'm kidding all the time.
I enjoy objectivity, cutting slate tile, and sitting on my front porch listening to sirens (fire engine and/or mythological, depending on the night).
I like doing things that everyone ought to do, but that no one gets around to doing. A couple years ago I took four months to drive around the country, hitting all 48 contiguous states and checking off most of what was on my US checklist. Took up fishing, went on some wild and serene hikes, and did a three-day solo canoe trip to an island in Minnesota that had bears and a toilet, but no walls. Very surreal, you might have loved it.
