I am back after a two month leave - I had previously written one month...I guess I will chalk that up to "nobody's perfect"!
The big difference is that I am now in Bountiful, Utah rather than Akron, Ohio.
I am a teacher and a learner at heart. While I am not teaching professionally right now, I taught 7th grade English, as well as remedial reading, creative writing, and journalism in Utah. It was the most fulfilling job that I have had so far. And it is one to which I plan to return eventually. It also means that I can be and am willing to relocate wherever need-be.
My personality fits the life-long learner push. Through being a teacher and in taking an Organizational Behavior class as an MBA student currently, I am coming more and more to appreciate the variety and value of the different personalities in the world. I am an INTJ on the Myers-Briggs. Most strongly, that boils down to the fact that I enjoy working with reflection, deep communication, principles, and concepts. I am also naturally an optimist.
I consider optimism extremely important, but I don't know that I would be one without the gospel of Jesus Christ. I have been a member all my life, and my parents did an excellent job conveying their love, and what my dad called common sense: a practical, hard-working testimony. I am extremely grateful for the guidance and refining that happens as we follow in the footsteps of the Savior. I am grateful for both faith and the principles of truth that are shared through scriptures and living prophets. I learned a great deal serving as a missionary in Merida, Mexico.
The hospitality of the Mexican saints, and the patience of companions in helping me be humble and a better team-member are two important lessons of my mission. I am still working on the humility part. I enjoyed travel, nature, and cultures before the mission, but I found a greater love for each, I think. I also found a love of language in studying Spanish - which is unfortunately rusty. It was probably a large factor in selecting English Education as a degree.
One of my favorite things in life is a well-constructed plot. Whether a well crafted movie or a fictional story or a historical/biographical sketch, I enjoy hearing stories. I am fascinated by plot twists, and the crafting of a strong story. Music really only sticks with me when it highlights a story or a concept. I read YAL, Fantasy, and Science Fiction most. I enjoy philosophy, politics, history. And, as I make the time, I write fantasy.
I grew up in Tucson, Arizona, and I have family all across the country. They are mostly in Arizona but also New York, Ohio, North Carolina, Maryland, Nebraska, Texas, and Afghanistan.
Thanks for reading.
