WHO AM I?
Reader -- I have a somewhat varied taste in books. I was in a book club and that’s exposed to me to some great new books. I like World War II books. I’m not so much interested in the battles as I am in the holocaust and what life was like for the non-soldiers during the war. I enjoy both non-fiction and historical fiction from this time period. One of my favorite books is, “Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience and Redemption,” which is the true story about an American Olympic runner who got captured by the Japanese and became a prisoner of war. So much is written on abuse from the Germans. It was interesting to learn about the persecution from the Japanese.
But, hey. I’ve got a lighter side too and young adult fiction helps to liven things up. “The Hunger Games” series is my favorite of the less serious and non-education reading material.
Bubbly -- Want to know a topic that will get me talking? Home décor! Do I know what I’m talking about? Not really. I just like watching HGTV.
Organized -- Yes, I run my life by to-do lists. Yes, I know how much I’ve spent on groceries every month for the past seven years. Yes, all the labels on canned food face the same way when placed in my cupboard. Yes, I load the dishwasher by organizing all like sized items together, Yes, I color coordinate my closet. Yes, all of my jewelry is stored individually in zip lock bags. No, I don’t alphabetize my medicine cabinet. Who do you think I am? Martha Stewart?!
Efficient -- I remember in high school my brother suggested I walk a new way to class each day. What?! No way! I only walked the most efficient way to my classes. Why in the world would I take a longer route? Fast forward to today. Yeah, nothing’s changed. I run my life by what’s most efficient with my time, money, resources, (span style="font-weight:bold;")etc.
Lover of the color red -- You know, it took me awhile before I realized red was my favorite color. Isn’t that weird?! Don’t people just know what their favorite color is? Well, lavender (light purple) used to be my favorite color for years. I’m a very loyal person, even to my favorite color! The color red had to work on me for years before a friend pointed out how much I loved it. Red car, red bedding, red nail polish, red necklaces, red belt, red shoes, red purse, red sunglasses case, red retainer case, red cell phone cover… Ok, maybe I do like the color red! (Note, I did realize red was my favorite color before buying all of those things.:)) Do you want to know how many red shirts I own? One. I don’t understand it either!
Sister -- I am the youngest of eight kids (five boys and three girls)! Usually the next question people ask is, “Do you want to have eight kids?” Uh, no. Two or three will do just fine, thanks.
WHERE DID I COME FROM?
The suburbs of the rainiest place on earth (or at least it felt that way while living the first 18 years of my life there) -- Seattle. Since moving away I’ve done stints in Utah, Idaho, Florida and California. I most recently lived in Virginia for five years. My favorite place on this mini tour of the U.S.? Virginia!
I’m currently living in Arkansas. You are probably wondering, “Why Arkansas?” You’re not the only one who’s asked me that question! My friends in Virginia asked me the same question when I moved a year ago. My answer: family. My brother who is three years older than me was the first to move to Arkansas. Later, my brother who is seven years older than me moved to the “natural state.” My parents were recruited too. Was I going to be left out of this party of family fun? No way!
