Do you buy that old myth about being over the hill after you hit 40? Neither do I! The way I look at it, there are so many things to figure out in those first 40 years, but here's the secret that people who are in their twenties don't know yet: once you get all of those things figured out, then the fun really begins! And that's what I'm looking for, someone who wants to make the next forty or so years really really fun with me!
So how do I define fun? I try not to limit myself, but here are a few ideas. I love to laugh and a man who can make me do that scores big points, whether he's doing it through witty banter, silly flirtiness, or doing goofy things that only I can see. ;-)
I also think trying new things is really fun. Over the last few years, I've taken fiction writing classes, cooking classes, jewelry-making classes, and even did a stint at a local summer jazz camp so that I could learn how to sing jazz! Go on, ask me to sing Summertime, I dare you! :-)
I like exploring new places abroad, but that doesn't mean that I don't have a good time locally! Whether it's going to a play at the Folger Shakespeare Theater or to a Nats game (I'm sorry, I know that the new park is really nice, but I still miss RFK!), checking out the latest flick at the Arlington Cinema and Drafthouse, or doing a day trip out to places like the Shenandoahs or Annapolis, it's all good. And I never complain if someone wants to meet up for dinner either because, hey, interesting conversation and good food are fun too!
This year I'm having fun discovering my inner outdoorswoman. I have been totally inspired by that citibank commercial where the girl talks about going on vacation with her boyfriend and she's gotta buy a new belt, new nylons, and new shoes, but then you see that all those items are for rock climbing on this amazing red rock formation. I really want to do that some day! So I'm getting in better shape, going on walks and riding my new bike. Is this a departure from the former bookwormish days of my youth? You bet! Is it a good thing? Absolutely! (but don't worry, I still love reading!) Want to take salsa lessons? Sure! Want to try kayaking? Why not? Scuba lessons? Sign me up!
But of course the most fun thing is to have someone I love who loves me right back. That's why I'm here on this website, looking for that man who knows how to be kind, tender, passionate, and true to me and to what he knows is right. Because when you've got someone like that in your life, even going to the grocery store together can be fun. I don't know when or where he'll find me, but in the meantime, I am going to enjoy meeting as many of you as I can. So if you want to help me have fun along the way, just drop me a line and let me know. I'm looking forward to hearing from you. :-)
