Once upon a time, there was a girl. She fell in love and married her prince, but he ran away. So, with broken magic, and using all of her courage, she packed up her glass slippers, boxed up her elementary classroom, stuffed it all into a UHaul, buckled-up her princess daughter, and moved far away. After days of driving the ‘pumpkin’ orange moving van, she arrived at her new kingdom. A valley.
She studied the towering, pine tree covered mountains, with the high, brilliant blue sky above. She tasted the cold, sweet mountain spring waters. She breathed in the fresh, crisp mountain air. She knew she was home. She and her daughter settled into a homey, warm cottage, where a new chapter in her story began, in the tops of the mountains.
As time went on in this new kingdom, happiness began creeping back into her life. With help from her fairy god friends and family, she began to piece herself back together. Her ‘golden world’ and zest for life was melting back into her life again. She began filling the kingdom with her singing (singing with the little animals, of course!) and also to fill the valley with the notes of piano music, all which was her blessing in healing. She could get dirty with paint from working with kids and play hard in the kingdom's canyons! But she could also have blond hair up, smell good, with pink in her cheeks, and shimmer in her dress, to attend a Broadway show in the city! Laughter, smiles, fun, and spontaneity, all who she truly was inside, began to emerge from the depths of her spirit where it had been covered and even smothered.
But something else began to happen too. Thoughts of love began trickling out of suppression…was it possible to have a true prince? Was there still a chance? Could he still exist somewhere out there? Maybe the Grand Ball at the castle wasn’t over! The clock hasn’t struck midnight yet!
This is my story, minus the glass slippers. :-)
I don’t know what the next chapter in my life will bring, but I have a pencil in one hand, erasure in another, and white paper in front of me. I’m a girl who’s honestly somewhat scared and apprehensive to step back out into the world of princes, but I’m ready to try again. Life is too short not to be in-love and be loved. I belief that it’s possible to love someone for everything they are, to work together for the future, roll with the punches of life, and be thrilled with the leaps into sunshine. I believe that relationships are work, with patience, kindness, understanding, respect, sacrifice, and so much more. But I also believe that relationships mean holding hands just because, being spontaneous with a surprise weekend get-away, happy smiles to one another when you both come home from a busy day just because you missed each other, and so much more.
My life is good. It is my fairytale. My story is being written every day.
What about you?
Once upon a time there was a boy…what is your story?
